Abstract

This study aims to find out more about the acceptance, perception and behavior of librarians regarding the presence of AI in Reference services and to find out more about the role and innovation of Librarians with the presence of AI. Using a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews as a data collection technique. 8 respondents were selected from various library user backgrounds, including 3 students, 3 academics/lecturers, and 2 members of the general public who use the reference services of the Airlangga University (UNAIR) Library, this study uses a descriptive qualitative format. The results of the study show a variety of responses from users to reference services that use AI. Most respondents welcomed the use of AI, considering it a valuable addition to accessing information. Several concerns also emerged, especially related to data privacy and concerns about losing human interaction. Librarians play a crucial role in developing students' critical thinking about the use of AI in various ways, including in reference services as a navigator of librarian information. Users tend to be wary of potential inaccuracies or biases in the results provided by AI, in the context of research that requires highly accurate and verified data. They understand that while AI can provide useful initial recommendations, those results need to be verified and followed up with more in-depth research. Various link user perceptions and attitudes to levels of satisfaction with AI-based reference services.
