Keywords:
Wikipedia, gender bias, gender disparity, systemic biasAbstract
As the world's largest online encyclopedia, Wikipedia plays a pivotal role in global knowledge dissemination, yet it grapples with a persistent issue: the Wikipedia gender gap. Despite its vast user base and influence in shaping digital information landscapes, Wikipedia exhibits significant disparities in the representation and coverage of women. This paper explores various dimensions of gender bias on Wikipedia, drawing from studies highlighting disparities in biographical content, editor demographics, and systemic biases in content structure and visibility. Through a literature review and observational analysis, this study underscores the challenges faced by female contributors, shedding light on cultural and systemic barriers that hinder their participation. By examining methodologies and findings from international research, this paper aims to foster further discourse and research on gender gaps in Wikipedia, advocating for inclusivity and diversity in digital knowledge platforms.
